Raleigh Electricity Conservation Tips
As you know, conserving water helps the environment and saves you money on your utility bills. Our Plumbing division has posted blogs on the topic of water conservation in the past.
Today we’re featuring some pointers for conserving energy to lower your bills and your negative impact on the environment. Our Raleigh electrical division, Progressive Electrical Service offers the following advice:
Reduce your use of overhead lighting:
- Open your blinds during the day, and take advantage of natural light!
- Use task lighting like a desk lamp when you don’t need the room flooded with light
- Try dimmer switches and use only the amount of light you need
- Turn off lights when you leave the room or the house
Save the electricity used to run your heating system:
- Here’s the obvious – put on a sweater and keep the thermostat at a cooler temperature
- When it’s sunny out, open window blinds and take advantage of the sun’s ability to heat your home
- Close the doors to rooms you’re not using so your heater doesn’t have to work as hard
- Is your home properly insulated? Seal cracks where air can escape
In the kitchen:
- When using the oven isn’t crucial to meal preparation, use the microwave instead
- Does your toaster, coffeemaker or other kitchen appliance have status lights? Unplug the device when not in use
- Handwash dishes when you have the time
- Instead of running the dishwasher’s drying cycle, hand-dry or air-dry the dishes
