Bone Up On Green Plumbing, Solar and Electrical Facts

Friday, May 28th, 2010

One big part of making plumbing, electrical, HVAC or solar upgrades to your home is knowing what to change and why. While you can always ask the team at Progressive for advice, it’s helpful to have the base knowledge so you know what home upgrades you’re interested in.

Many of our clients ask us what they can change at home to help them go green and save money at the same time. That’s why this Friday we’ve aggregated a few quizzes to share with you. These fun, simple quizzes will help you learn about green home options for energy use, plumbing upgrades and more. Ready to test your knowledge of water conservation and green plumbing and electrical options?

  • Learn more about home energy use and what you can do to reduce it with this quiz.
  • To understand the green tax breaks available for upgrading to energy-efficient and water-conserving systems in your home, try this quiz.
  • To learn more about the role green appliances can play in your home, this is the quiz for you.

Top Two Reasons to Go Solar

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

I know it’s been rainy here recently, and in the gloomy weather we often write-off solar energy. But solar thermal systems and photovoltaic panels make more than enough energy to power your home on sunny days, and this excess energy can be stored for cloudy days like the ones we’ve been encountering recently in Raleigh.

So here’s a simple reminder from Progressive Solar Tech of a couple reasons solar energy is a great alternative energy option for your home:

  • The environment: A renewable energy source, solar energy doesn’t deplete the earth’s resources because it can constantly be replenished. Also, the use of solar energy doesn’t produce any emissions (which harm our environment) – traditional energy sources produce plenty of bad emissions.
  • Your bank account: With available tax incentives, the initial cost of installing a solar thermal or solar panel array has become affordable for more homeowners. After installation, solar energy costs stay constant (free!), whereas electricity costs rise steadily and are subject to unpredictable spikes. If you have a solar home, you don’t have to deal with rising energy prices. And here’s a bonus: Installing a solar energy system increases the value of your home.
